is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 4 GB model compatible with the 2008 mac pro

I want to upgrade my mac pro's graphics card from a nvidia gforce gtx 680 to a 960 and i am wondering if it would mess up my boot camp or if it would destroy my computer or something (Is it safe to put a EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 in a 2008 mac pro and have everything work right)

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Yes it will work. You do need to install the Nvidia drivers.

Also, unless you get a Mac flashed card the boot screen will not show and this if this is the only graphics card you can't use the special startups like Recovery and boot manager.
